New York Times 'Killer Vet' Story Exposed as Erroneous by Pro-Troop Group

SACRAMENTO- Move America Forward (website: http://www.MoveAmericaForward.org/), the nation's largest grassroots pro-troop organization, today announced that after vetting the numbers cited by The New York Times in their Sunday, January 13, 2008 story, "Across America, Deadly Echoes of Foreign Battles," it became clear that the Times had engaged in demonstrably erroneous and false reporting.
It took seven New York Times researchers to find 121 cases in which veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan committed a killing in the United States, or were charged with one, upon returning home to this country.
The Times made the false conclusion that: "Taken together, they paint the patchwork of a quiet phenomenon, tracing a cross-country trail of death and heartbreak."
The Times documentation of 121 potential killings out of more than 1.5 million veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq) and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), divided by 6 years of conflict results in a murder rate of just 1.34 incidents per 100,000 veterans per year.
That murder rate is far lower than the murder rate for the general population, demonstrating that the experiences of military service - including having served in Iraq and Afghanistan - actually made it less likely for returning veterans to commit murder once they returned home, than the general population.
Given a census-estimated population of the United States of 300,000,000 persons in this country as of October 2006, and FBI-compiled statistics of 17,399 homicide offenders for 2006, the murder rate of the general population was 5.80 offenders per 100,000 on average - and a rate of approximately 7.67 per 100,000 for men.
Since all but one of the veterans cited by the Times who committed a killing in the U.S. was male, the comparable rate is approximately 7.67 incidents of murder per 100,000 people among the general male population, compared to just 1.34 incidents per 100,000 returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans (of both genders).
"It's obvious that the New York Times has an agenda of undermining the missions of our troops in the War on Terror, so much so that they are willing to resort to demonstrably false statistics to support their anti-troop bias," said Melanie Morgan, Chairman of Move America Forward.
"The slander of our troops and veterans by the New York Times is unfortunately all too familiar. We heard this kind of nonsense about our returning veterans from Vietnam. It's the same insult, different war.
"Perhaps the shameful staff of The New York Times has run out of war-time secrets to publish for America's enemies to read, because now they've resorted to an all-out smear campaign of America's finest men and women, who have served this country bravely and with distinction," Morgan said.
In place of hard data to support their premise, The New York Times was instead forced to devote almost the entire portion of 6,321 word hit-piece to anecdotes of wrongdoing by individual veterans.
The New York Times even went so far as to trace back the phenomenon of murderous veterans to Greek mythology to back up their assertions of their report.
"The real mythology is the reporting by The New York Times," Move America Forward's Melanie Morgan concluded.

*** Note that the central statistical measure is how many instances of alleged killings take place per 100,000 Iraq/Afghanistan war veterans who returned home. The New York Times might argue that our statistics are incorrect since the 1.5+ million Iraq/Afghanistan veterans have not been home during the entire 6 years of the war (especially since in the early onset of Operation Enduring Freedom troops were just arriving into the war zone).
However, Salon.com reports that as of January 31, 2005 there were 1,048,884 Americans who had fought in Iraq or Afghanistan. One can then calculate statistics from that point onward. Let’s give the New York Times the leeway of saying their alleged 121 incidents of killings by veterans occured during just the three years that elapsed since that time to the present. The murder rate per 100,000 people would still be approximately 3.5 incidents of murder per 100,000 returning Iraq/Afghanistan veterans.

Newt Gingrich has compiled some amazing statistics from Joe Americans about America utilizing a broad spectrum of Republicans, Democrats and Independents. Now I cannot vouch for the scientific method in acquiring the statistics because obviously Newt is a Conservative.
In full disclosure of honesty, Slanted Left data collection is also skewed to justify their agenda; therefore the method on both sides of the aisle is more than likely skewed for self-justification. The reader of statistics has to decide the integrity of the data organization to filter an opinion from percentages and numbers published as statistical results.
I am a Conservative and I would never trust statistics derived from Kos or a statistical organization hired by Kos, that group is simply too inflammatory against the Right to read anything into their conclusions or methods to acquire conclusions. On the other hand I might weigh some thoughts of statistics derived from the NY Times or the Washington Post, two obvious Slanted Left media publications. You might ask, “Why?” The reason is every scandal a journalistic media of repute (whether it is Left or Right) has to understand that being caught in conspicuous manipulation adds disrepute to the validity of their reporting. The National Enquirer understands this principle, only gossip fanatics and the addicted to the strange take the National Enquirer seriously.
If the NYT or WaPo were caught in Statistical fraud it could eventually cut into their bottom line – sales and revenue. Now that is ironic for Slanted Left organizations is it not?
So obviously Newts statistics may be skewed; however the skewing is more than likely in the question and the conclusion. That works for me.
The essence of Newts recent “Winning The Future” e-newsletter is that media and blogs present a picture of the Left and the Right being vicious enemies on way opposite sides of the political spectrum. Newt’s statistics amazingly disputes the polarizing divide between Americans.

Statistics of a poll carried out in highly populated Mohammedan lands indicates that they view the American agenda as solely to injure and divide the Mohammedan world. That perception of course is the result of the seeds of radical Mohammedan hate propaganda.
The agenda of America in the War on Terror is primarily Security and secondarily the propagation of American National Interests. It is true that the National Interests may react to such policies that might hamper the American economy; thus oil does come into play. Regardless of the propaganda, oil issues are not about control until it threatens the National Interest.
It would be ridiculous for a global hegemon as U.S. the not to flex its muscles when the National Interests are threatened. The reality of the matter is that if the roles were reversed and oil enriched Mohammedan nations had hegemonic power to match their economic oil prowess; they would flex their muscles if their National Interests were threatened as well.
As it stands now, the oil Mohammedan elites play a political game of carrot and the stick with economics to gain American aid (military protection) and dissuade American protection of Israel. That makes the oil rich hypocrites.
The radical Islamist Mohammedans have seen through the hypocrisy of the Mohammedan elites playing Western politics while offering only a hat tip to the culture spawned by their prophet Mohammed. This is where the “radical” enters in the Middle East and the Mohammedan populace listen with extreme sympathy to the radical barking of the present that reminds of a Mohammedan hegemonic past that ultimately ended with the demise of the Ottoman Empire at the hands of the West.
Mohammedans yearn for the cultic power of the Umma to control the globe and reinstate Mohammed’s vision of conquest and forced conversions by hook or by crook.
Radical Mohammedans are some sort of equivalent to a Mohammedan style Robin Hood. Punish the infidel or convert them regardless of government agendas or alliances. Al Qaeda and the other Islamofascists that look back to medieval purity of their cultic faith win or lose will probably become cultural legends. I for one am on the side that prays they lose with extreme prejudice.
Check this out: The LARGEST random sex survey ever conducted has determined that ONLY 1.4% of adults have participated in homosexual sexual relations (data gathered in 2003).
That percentage is extremely fractional. View the statistic of active homosexuals to (let’s say) non-homosexuals: 98.6%.
Now match this with the obvious money involved in getting Americans to accept homosexuality as a valid alternate lifestyle or the Psychiatrists that have validated the microscopic percentage as normal. Even a mathematical moron can see that 1.4% is deviant from the norm.
Left Wing organizations from the ACLU and MULTIPLE homosexual rights organizations are attempting to delude the public into believing this infinitesimal population that is morally corrupt should be listed with race, religion and gender in equal civil rights. COME ON!

PHILADELPHIA, Mar. 23 /Standard Newswire/ -- According to two researchers, the largest random sex survey ever conducted has reported that only 1.4% of adults engaged in homosexual behavior. Analyzing a 2003 Canadian Community survey of 121,300 adults, Drs. Paul and Kirk Cameron told attendees of the Eastern Psychological Association Convention that 2% of 18-44 year olds, 1% of 50 year olds, and only a third of a percent of subjects 60+ considered themselves homosexual. Thus homosexual activity was much more common among younger adults.
What happened to the older homosexuals? "Some may have ceased to be sexually active," said Paul Cameron, "or they may have died. Recent reports from indicate that the life expectancy of homosexuals is 20+ years shorter than that of heterosexuals."
Among other questions (read to respondent by interviewer), the Canadian study asked:
"Do you consider yourself to be: heterosexual? (sexual relations with people of the opposite sex)/ homosexual, that is lesbian or gay? (sexual relations with people of your own sex)/ bisexual? (sexual relations with people of both sexes)."
"No one can say that this statistic is 'the bedrock truth,'" Paul Cameron said, "but even with attempts to increase the percentage of active homosexuals – which Statistics Canada appears to have done by reporting only the results of those under the age of 60 – the 1.4% is a figure that has to be taken very seriously.
"The government survey of 12, 381 adults in 1996, reported that 1.3% of men and 1.1% of women under the age of 60 said they'd had homosexual sex in the last 12 months. It also found few older homosexuals. The oldest male who engaged in homosexuality was 54 and the oldest female+ 49. So it appears that homosexuality is a young person's activity – one that may contribute to an early death."
